Overview

Eligibility

• Indian citizen. Maximum age generally 50 years as on closing date (age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen per GoI rules).
• Deputy Secretary: Master’s with 55% + 7 years’ experience in Level-10 equivalent administrative posts; literary event experience required.
• Assistant Editor: Postgraduate in a language/literature recognised by Akademi + 5 years copy-editing experience.
• Publication Assistant: Graduate + Diploma in Book Publishing + 5 years publishing experience.
• Junior Clerk: 10+2 + typing speed 35 wpm English or 30 wpm Hindi + computer knowledge.
• Stenographer Gr. II: 10+2 + 80 wpm shorthand + typing + computer knowledge.
• MTS: 10th/10+2 or ITI equivalent + basic computer knowledge.
• Full post-wise qualifications in the Eligibility Criteria PDF on the official website.
• Qualifications and experience must be complete as on the closing date of application.

How to apply

1. Visit https://sahitya-akademi.gov.in/recruitment/vacancy.jsp and download the prescribed application form for your post.
2. Fill the form completely — write NA where not applicable; incomplete forms are rejected.
3. Attach a recent passport-size self-attested photograph and self-attested copies of all certificates.
4. Government/PSU employees must apply through proper channel or attach NOC.
5. Super-scribe the envelope: “Application for the post of _________”.
6. Send by speed post or registered post only to: Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan, 35 Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi – 110001.
7. Submit a separate application and envelope for each post.
8. Email applications are NOT accepted. Apply well before the last date to avoid postal delays.

Selection process

• Deputy Secretary & Assistant Editor: selection by interview.
• Most other posts: written test (100 marks) — Part-I objective (GS, Hindi, English, Computer, Aptitude) + Part-II descriptive.
• No negative marking in objective section.
• Stenographer: written test + qualifying skill test (80 wpm shorthand).
• Junior Clerk: written test + qualifying typing test.
• Driver/Messenger posts: written test + driving skill test.
• Only shortlisted candidates are called — no TA/DA paid.
• Final appointment subject to document verification and medical fitness.
